MAIN OBJECTIVES OF BLOOD BANK :-
- To ensure sufficient
supply of the Blood and its components.
- To ensure consistency of high
quality with no risk.
- To ensure Donors screening. This can be achieved
by implementing effective system of Quality Assurance.
- Important area
of the Blood Bank are:
- Donors selection.
- Method and procedure
of Blood collection
- Transportation.
- Storage during transit period

Testing
- Labeling
- Dispatch under ideal temperature conditions
PREMISES
OF THE BLOOD BANK:- The Premises is to be according
to the approved plan of Blood Bank. The layout of the premises should be well
distinguished and different areas are earmarked under the act. The premises should
be consisting the following different segregated sections.
- Blood Collection room
- Sterilisation and washing room
- Store
and office.
- Refreshment room
- Serological Laboratory.

Laboratory for transfusion transmitted diseases.
The total area of the building premises should not be less than 100 sq.mtrs.
If the Components facility is to be provided then an additional 50 sq.mtrs. space
is to be provided with Central Aid Conditioning system. PERSONNEL
:- The Blood Bank shall have the following staff to
supervise the activity and blood processing and its procedures. 1.
Medical Officer - shall be M.D., D.C.P. - Experience is not required. 2.
Medical Officer - shall be MBBS with D.P. - No experience is required. 3.
Medical Officer - shall be MBBS - with one year minimum experience. 4.
Laboratory Technicians - His qualification shall be degree in Medical
Laboratory Technology with minimum 6 months Experience.
Diploma in Medical Laboratory technology with minimum
one year experience. 5. Registered Nurse.
QUALITY ASSURANCE :-
- Environment Monitoring,
- testing
of the empty bags,
- documentation review,
- staff training and supervision,
- self inspection and quality audit,
- equipment calibration,
