| STATISTICAL DATA
:-
Presently, the Food and Drugs Control Administration
is monitoring the collection, storage, distribution and transportation of the
blood bank activities of all the Blood Banks and Component units situated at various
parts of the Gujarat State. For this purpose, the department has been provided
inspectorial staff up to District level. The District level officers used to inspect
the premises of the licensed blood bank. They are being assisted by the West Zone
Officers in specific cases. This department is providing active participation
to encourage Voluntary Blood Donation and taking adequate measures to ensure that
the Professional Donation must be strictly banned. Replacing donation or blood
donation collected from the relatives is also to be discouraged in a phased manner.
As per the medical data, the transfusion medicines, the blood collected from the
relatives is not considered to be stable because the blood obtained from the relative
is certainly create lot of problems especially in the case of multi-transfusion
patients. When there is a case of organ transplant, it is essential that the blood
should only be from the voluntary donors, not only that but it should be HLMH.
If the blood obtained from the relative is transmitted, it may contain Endogen
and T-Lymphosite, which is likely to evoke non-hermobilic, Hdebrite Transfusion
reaction. Therefore, it is essential that the attention be focused to encourage
only voluntary blood donors.
Though, it is not
practically possible, however, it is well and good if the donor is not changed
in multi-transfusion persons. For that case, it is also necessary that there should
be a cross matching of voluntary donations.
Here
it should be borne in mind that the blood obtained from the relative is likely
to cause Host Vs.Graft reactions. Therefore, it is essential that as far as possible
the blood collections should be emphasized from Voluntary Donors only.
At present, most of the Districts in Gujarat State are covered by Blood Banks.
Not only that now a days several district places are also having the facility
of Component facilities. Efforts are taken to see that the remaining districts
may also get the facility of component in near future.
Attempts are being taken to see that existing blood bank may not just confined
only that the Whole Blood but may be converted as Component. The details and statistical
figures which shows the number of Blood Banks working at the State level are given
as per the list, which is giving the break up figures as per the State Government,
Voluntary Blood Bank, Charitable and Private in respect of Blood Banks and Components
separately. Following table show details of Blood banks.
