Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana
During the year 2008-09 Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) was implemented in first five pilot districts of Gujarat namely, Bharuch, Dahod, Jamnagar, Kutch and Patan. In these five districts out of 5.66 lakh BPL families 3.14 lakh BPL families were covered under the scheme. The policy was over on 30th November 2009. A total 20.08 thousand claims with a claim amount of Rs.10.93 Cr. has been booked during this policy.

In the year 2009-10, additional five tribal districts namely Banaskantha, Dang, Narmada, Sabarkantha and Tapi were covered. Out of the total 5.66 lakh BPL families, 3.42 lakh BPL families were covered under the scheme. A total 68.98 thousand claims with a claim amount of Rs.24.34 Cr. were booked during this policy period.

On 1st December 2009 the policy was further extended up to 31st march 2010 in the first five pilot districts. During this extension period 5.27 thousand claims with a claim amount of Rs.3.58 Cr. were booked.

In the year 2010-11, the scheme was further extend to 16 new districts Rajkot, Porbandar, Vadodra, Valsad, Anand, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Amreli, Navsari and Surat. With this the entire rural BPL populations of all the 26 districts of Gujarat were covered under the RSBY scheme. A total 19.10 lakh rural BPL families out of 29.69 lakh were enrolled in the scheme. A total 82.30 thousand claims with a claim amount of Rs. 46.62 Cr. has been booked till date (6th August, 2011).

In the current year 2011-12, the RSBY policy in 26 districts of Gujarat is being renewed and in addition to the eligible rural BPL families, the scheme is being extended to all the eligible 9.5 lakh urban BPL families of the state as well. More than 10.95 lakh BPL families have been enrolled till date and are still continuing.
