Mamta Taruni Abhiyan
Health and Family Welfare department, under RCH-II has initiated Adolescent Friendly Health Services. 54 AFHS centers including all the district hospitals and Medical colleges have been initiated. These clinics are meant to provide basic health care and counseling to the adolescents. As current year has been declared as “Nirogi Bal Varsh” adolescent health has been included as one of the components of Mamta Diwas.
Department has initiated Mamta Diwas which is meant to provide a fixed day out reach services to expecting and lactating mothers. The services are being provided by the Mamta Diwas centers at sub-centers and anganwadis. A special card is been designed for record and documentation purpose which includes sections on Antenatal care, Post natal care, growth monitoring etc.
Kishori Shakti Yojana is implemented in 260 blocks in entire state. Under this scheme adolescent girls are enrolled and trained in nutrition awareness, personnel hygiene, health care, self employment generating scheme and are covered by supplementary nutrition and micronutrient benefits.

The other on going scheme under ICDS is the National Programme for Adolescent girls a GoI scheme. Under this scheme 6 kgs of Maize is provided as supplementary nutrition to adolescent girls weighing under 35 kgs.

The ICDS programmes covers age group of 11-18 yrs.

Based on the above three concepts MAMTA TARUNI ABHIYAN is being proposed for adolescents girls in the age group of 10 to 19 years in rural areas. This is a community level intervention to cater the need of the above said group.
WHY MAMTA TARUNI ABHIYAN
There has been successful implementation of school health programme which caters the need of school going adolescent. Maternal Health component of RCH-II covers most of the married adolescent and their needs for reproductive and sexual health and nutrition. The only group remains uncovered is out of school unmarried adolescents. Various studies and data both from central and state level shows the poor nutrition status of out of school adolescents boys and girls, early marriages and early pregnancies, unsafe abortions and unwanted pregnancies in this group, prone to sexual abuse and violence, high risk to RTI/STI including HIV/AIDS. This all in turn leads to various mental health problems. This is a group which least access the health care facilities for all the above mentioned problems. Mamta Taruni Abhiyan is a community based intervention under the umbrella of RCH-II ARSH strategy to provide health care out of school unmarried adolescent girls.
