The Institute established in 1968 has come a long way in eye care services. It is affiliated to the B. J. Medical college, Ahmedabad & Gujarat University. It admits 12 Degree M.S. Ophthalmology & 6 Diploma Post Graduate students every year. It has a inpatient capacity of 250 Beds – 230 Free & 20 Special.

Services Available :
1. Primary Eye Care: Out patient department provides initial diagnostic and treatment facilities for all minor eye-ailments like infections, vitamin A deficiencies disorders, simple eye injuries and common refractive errors & also screens cases that need further diagnostic and corrective procedures including surgeries.

2. Secondary & Tertiary Eye Care:
 
  • Cornea Unit: for diagnosis & treatment of cornea related problems including keratoplasties.
  • Eye-Bank:The Bank offers round the clock central eye banking
  • Squint Department: All types of squints are diagnosed and corrected.
  • Retina Centre(C H Nagari Retina Centre)
  • Glaucoma Unit
  • Oculoplasty: The clinic has most modern facilities like Ultra-Sonography and Scanning & Special types of lead-impregnated contact lens for localisation of intra-ocular foreign body.

3. Gujarat Healthcare Project of Community
  In addition to institutional care, the hospital has a regular programme of providing services to the people living in remote rural areas, who do not have an easy access to these services. A self-contained mobile van with all diagnostic, treatment and surgical facilities that can possibly be transported and the specialists of various concerning ophthalmic care, visit sential centres located in identified rural areas.
