Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre And Institue of Transplantation Sciences

In 1977, Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (I.K.D.R.C.) was created and autonomous status was granted to the Institute in 1986 with secretary of Health as ex-officio chairman.

Shri Rasikbhai N. Doshi and Shri Mafatlal Mehta from Mumbai collectively donated Rs. Ten million to build the hospital. Other philanthropic organizations and individuals came in with other financial assistance.

IKDRC was established with the express aim of providing state of art medical care to the poor masses of this part of the country who are suffering from kidney ailments. It also has the wings of research and education built in as the additional arms.

The Institute runs superspeciality courses in Nephrology & Urology which are recognised by National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. We also have speciality training in Anaesthesia. The curriculum includes three years of training following the P.G. qualification of doctors in their respective field.

The need for creating 150 indoor beds in addition to the existing facilities arose to serve the patients’ needs. Aslo, fairly reasonable success with kidney transplantation has inspired us to create a sister institute of I.K.D.R.C., the Institute of Transplantation Sciences (I.T.S.) wherein transplantation of other organs can be successfully carried out.
