State Institute of Health & Family Welfare (SIHFW) is a platform of great opportunities in areas of various trainings in health. As an apex and nodal institute planning, implementation and monitoring of all types of training programmes are being looked after by SIHFW. It also provides Trainings for Trainers (TOTs), develops teaching-learning material, curricula and modules as well as facilitates basic pre-service training to para-medicals i.e. Female Health workers and Multi Purpose Health Workers (Male) and promotional in-service trainings for Female Health Supervisors.
a) Vision :
The institution is committed to constant striving for health promotion and disease prevention by building capacity in medical health personnel. This is epitomized in the logo with the slogan. (No Laziness in studies).
b) Mission :
Health is the right of an individual and with proper understanding it becomes duty of an individual to take positive steps for promotion of health of self and the community.
To sensitize the health functionaries about the healthy community and to buildup a healthy nation through healthy self.
c) Objectives :
To train the trainers, so that effective translation of health messages is carried forward.
To sensitize the trainees so that they practice the health messages for self and make other
practice.
To provide advocacy to health managers and policy makers in the thrust areas of health care
sector.
To provide practical skill based hands on training for effective application in the community.
To prepare training components on the basis of the gape analysis in the skills of health
functionaries so that the community is to provide need based Health care.
To plan and provide high quality training in the conducive environment.
c) Milestones of the Institute :
In 1958, Regional Family Planning Training Center (FPTC), Ahmedabad established as a pioneering training center of Gujarat State.
In 1966, upgraded as Regional Family Planning Training Center (RFPTC) on Government of India pattern.
In 1985, Principal of the Center was entrusted all the training programmes as Programme Officer & Principal.
In 1991, upgraded as State Institute of Health & Family Welfare (SIHFW) - Under Indian Population Project (IPP)-VII. The post of Joint Director was upgraded to Director.
In July-1998, started functioning in its new building at SOLA constructed under IPP- VII Project.
In 2011, i.e. presently SIHFW is sheltered at Khadi Talim Kendra, Sector–12, Mahatma Mandir Road, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
